On my twentieth birthday, I made a list of thirty things that I want to do before turning thirty. I’ve done quite a few of them: climb a mountain, travel to Italy, have sex, learn Mandarin, etc. One of the things that I wrote back then that I can now officially cross off of the list is traveling to Seattle. I’m not sure why I wanted to go to Seattle so badly, maybe because it is one of the most northern big cities in the United States? Over this past Fourth of July weekend, my husband and my anniversary weekend, we decided to spend a weekend in Seattle. Below I’m sharing my Things to do in Seattle in July Guide!
Spa Hotel In Downtown Seattle
We stayed in The Alexis Royal Sonesta in downtown Seattle. This hotel was built in 1901 and had many classic touches to it. I booked us a spa suite, and it was well worth it! We took multiple baths a day, and both of us could fit in the tub as it was HUGE. The room itself was very lux and had a modern flair to it. The location was AMAZING. We were a five-minute walk to Pike’s Place Market, a few minutes from the Seattle Art Museum, and super close to the pier as well.
Seattle Eats
Seattle has some great restaurants. One of the best ones that we went to was around the corner from our hotel. It was a Georgian Bakery called Skalka, and the only food they served was khachapuri. I had never had khachapuri before, and it was glorious! Khachapuri is a traditional cheese-filled bread that has egg and other meat toppings. I ordered the chicken one both times, and Idan got the beef one.
We also had some incredible sushi at Momiji in Capitol Hill. I would highly recommend their happy hour that is every day between 4-6 pm. I got some super fresh sashimi, crab rolls, shrimp rolls, and a beer. It was a great value, and we got so much fantastic sushi.
The last sit-down meal we had was in Capitol Hill at Ayutthaya. Ayutthaya is a Thai restaurant, and I had the most amazing Crispy Garlic Chicken. My husband got Chicken Pud See Ewe, and it was pretty good.
We got tons of sweets in Pike’s Market, giant cookies from various stalls, etc. Near Pike’s is a chocolate shop called Fran’s. It is a luxury chocolate store with melt in your mouth salted caramels. Another spot we hit up twice was Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice Cream. Molly Moon’s had the richest, creamiest ice cream that I have ever had. They also homemade their waffle cones in store. The flavors I would most recommend are Cookie Dough and Salted Carmel.
Things to do in Seattle in July
We were so close to Pike’s Market, so we went several times. We saw them throw the fish and the first Starbucks. I will say that these things were wasted on us as the hubs don’t like fish, and I’m not too fond of coffee. We went and saw though, which was cool! The image above shows us making our mark on the Gum Wall, which is near the market. I was pretty disgusted, but it is tradition, so I was down to participate.
We also went to the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum, which is lovely. I would highly recommend it. The space needle is nearby and cool to see. We didn’t go to the top because the line was so long with visitors. We did walk around the Sculpture Garden, which is unique.
Unfortunately, the Seattle Public Library and Art Museum were closed on Monday, the day we wanted to go. These are some other attractions that I’ve heard are worth checking out!
We had a great trip to Seattle and enjoyed exploring the city. Let me know if you’ve been to Seattle and what your favorite attractions are! I’m so glad I got to complete another goal from my list.
