Fancy a new lip color? La Bouche Rouge has you covered with its range of luxurious and long-lasting lipsticks. They recently added new makeup products to their Parisian eco-luxe cosmetics products as well! But is it all just hype, or is this brand worth your time? Read on for my honest La Bouche Rouge review.
La Bouche Rouge Founder
Founded in Paris in 2017 by Nicolas Gerlier, a L’Oreal veteran, and Ezra Petronio of the creative agency Petronio Associates, La Bouche Rouge launched eco-friendly, refillable lipsticks. La Bouche Rouge means “red lips” in French. It has a symbolic meaning as well of “using your voice.” They launched more makeup products in 2020, including powder eyeshadows, mascara, highlight, and bronzer. The line of luxury, sustainable makeup strives to revolutionize the makeup industry with gorgeous leather and vegan leather refillable packaging.
La Bouche Rouge Review
Best of La Bouche Rouge
I have tried several luxury clean beauty brands, including Kjaer Weis and Westman Atelier. While I have enjoyed the cream products from these veteran clean makeup lines, their powder products are lacking. When La Bouche Rouge launched their powder highlight, eyeshadows, and bronzers, I was thrilled to try them out and share with you all as they are some of the best powder pigment formulations I have tried in the eco-beauty space!
La Bouche Rouge Eyeshadow
One of La Bouche Rouge’s standout products is its eyeshadow palette. They have five different color stories, including pink, brown, grey, purple, and beige. The palettes are pressed together and come housed in one pan. The shade that I selected was Les Ombres Chilwa, an iridescent brown color story. I was impressed with this palette because all shades are pigmented, creamy, and blend out easily. The shadows are shimmery, with a metallic finish to them. I want to try different shades of this palette because it is easy to work with and compact! Find it, here.
La Bouche Rouge Highlighter
I was super impressed with La Bouche Rouge’s powder products, and that’s why I include the La Bouche Rouge Highlighter in my best category. It has a similar buttery texture to the eyeshadow and blends out like a dream! This highlight gives me the proper illumination without being too chunky or glittery. It is also a cream shade, so it would be suitable for most skin tones as it is not too gold and not too pink. Find it, here.
La Bouche Rouge Bronzer
The last favorite powder product I loved was the La Terra Blonde Bronzer. This is a matte, contouring bronzer and is a dream to define the hollows of the face as it is so buttery. They have three shades of this bronzer: blonde, brown, and dark brown. I appreciate the shade range as well. I am very pale, and it is so great to have a bronzer that I can use and doesn’t make me look like Snooki. Find it, here.
Runner-Up La Bouche Rouge Products
I want to start this section by stating that there weren’t any La Bouche Rouge products that I hated. They all have gorgeous, thoughtful packaging! There are a few that I don’t love though. They are not awful makeup items, but I wouldn’t write home about them.
La Bouche Rouge Mascara
So, the La Bouche Rouge Mascara does have decent wear time. It doesn’t smudge on me, but I don’t get the Va Voom lashes that I desire. My lashes were somewhat defined with it, and that’s about it. I much prefer Ilia’s mascaras. Find it, here.
La Bouche Rouge Eyeliner
I debated in putting the La Bouche Rouge Eye Pencil in the best category. It is a I debated putting the La Bouche Rouge Eye Pencil in the best category. It is a good eyeliner, but it is nothing too crazy. It’s a gel-like consistency compared to a creamier formulation and only comes in black. It lasts decently on the lash line as well. Find it, here.
Eyebrow Serum Gel
The La Bouche Rouge Eyebrow Serum Gel is transparent and glossy in finish. I don’t love that it dries down glossy as it sets the brows. That eventually fades down but isn’t a good look for a while. I also don’t love the packaging. The wand only reaches halfway down the tube, so it will be hard to empty. Find it, here.
The Original, The Lipstick
It may surprise you that the original La Bouche Rouge Lipstick is not a favorite formulation. It does tint the lips nicely and is moisturizing. Why it’s not a favorite because it doesn’t have the pigmentation that I would expect from such a pricey product, and it isn’t super creamy. I have only tried one shade, so I am up to trying others and seeing if they are more pigmented. Find it, here.
Conclusion
La Bouche Rouge has some of the most beautiful packaging in clean makeup. The products I would most recommend from them are the powder products. They have unique formulations that are pigmented, creamy and blendable. The other products aren’t awful, not something I would put in a favorites category.
