I discovered the cult skincare line by May Lindstrom at Citrine Beauty Bar in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2018. I heard whispers of this small, luxury line on social media but didn’t bite the bullet and purchase until I had the chance to smell the products and experience them in store. In this article, I will be sharing my May Lindstrom Skin Review.
May Lindstrom Luxury Experience
I had the pleasure of meeting May Lindstrom at an event in LA pre-pandemic. She has a calming presence and was so kind. The workshop she hosted taught me how to do a facial massage with The Youth Dew and Blue Cocoon using various parts of the hand. As part of the workshop, we washed our faces with the Pendulum Potion and dried our faces with the super luxurious fluffy towels they also sell on their website. All products come packaged in gorgeous black glass bottles that serve a purpose!
From The May Lindstrom Website: “The history and appreciation for the special protective qualities of Miron violet glass can be traced back to the heyday of ancient Egyptian civilization. Even then, valuable essences and healing natural products were kept in gold and violet glass containers. Miron violet glass works like a natural filter, blocking the complete spectrum of visible light while allowing a certain part to be permeable for radiation in the spectral range of UV-A and infrared light. This unique combination offers optimal protection against the aging processes that are initiated by visible light, thus lengthening the stability and potency of our collection, without the use of parabens and preservatives.“
The packaging of May Lindstrom Skin is unique, but so is the customer service and product delivery. Each package comes with a handwritten note from May herself. I can tell that she has put her heart and soul into the brand.
Who Is May Lindstrom?
Growing up, May had extremely sensitive skin. As a child, she enjoyed creating potions using mineral-rich clay from the river behind her home in Minnesota, local honey, and plants from the garden. She moved to Los Angeles when she grew up and worked as a model. She hadn’t given up her natural body and skincare routine and quietly launched her eponymous skincare line in the Fall of 2011. In the beginning, the May Lindstrom Skincare line contained three products. It now has eight. May is meticulous in keeping her brand luxurious by maintaining a small product selection, sourcing high-quality ingredients, and keeping a small retail partnership count.
May Lindstrom: The Blue Cocoon
The Blue Cocoon is from the original May Lindstrom Skin line. The May Lindstrom team claims it is a “solid oil facial concentrate.” I like to think of this product as a solid oil moisturizer. The skincare goals are to: soothe, hydrate, and relieve irritation. The ingredients include blue tansy, helichrysum, shea butter, and baobab oil. It has a gorgeous blue color, and the scent of blue tansy is intoxicating. This is one of my favorite May Lindstrom products. When I use The Blue Cocoon at night, my skin feels soft, soothed, and hydrated the following day.

May Lindstrom: The Clean Dirt
The May Lindstrom Clean Dirt is also from the original May Lindstrom Skin launch. The Clean Dirt is a powder cleanser made from a blend of clays, spices, and salts. This cleanser is unique because it also has an H20-activated Vitamin C. In all honesty, this is not one of my favorite May Lindstrom products. I don’t like that sodium bicarbonate is one of the first few ingredients. I find it to be too intense for my normal/combo skin.

May Lindstrom: The Honey Mud
The Honey Mud is my favorite May Lindstrom Skin product. It is the first May Lindstrom product I purchased and the only one I have consistently repurchased. The Honey Mud can be used as a mask or a cleanser, and the texture is like custard. I typically use it as a mask. Ingredients include raw organic honey, silver, white halloysite clay, and plant oils. An enzyme in the formula comes from wintergreen leaves that gently exfoliate. I have found my skin to look less dull and brighter immediately after using The Honey Mud mask.

May Lindstrom: The Jasmine Garden
I love the scent of The Jasmine Garden, but it is not one of the May Lindstrom Skin products that I most covet. The Jasmine Garden is a facial mist with water and a rose flower water base. It also includes flower extracts, flower oils, and colloidal silver. I have found this mist to be a bit too strong for my skin and causes it to be reactive. It is also not moisturizing enough. I generally prefer facial mists and toners with a glycerin or aloe base.

May Lindstrom: The Pendulum Potion
Okay, here’s a little secret, I use The Pendulum Potion as a facial oil rather than a cleansing oil. The May Lindstrom Pendulum Potion is intended to be a lightweight oil cleanser, but I have found it to work well as the final step in my skincare routine. It has beautiful seed oils as its base; think olive seed and tamanu oil. The scent is reminiscent of the Honey Mud, sweet and a little chocolatey. As an oil cleanser, it works okay, it does not rinse clean, and I do have to go in with a warm washcloth and follow with a second cleanse. Again, keep this our secret. I prefer it as a face oil.

May Lindstrom Skin: The Problem Solver
The Problem Solver is similar to The Clean Dirt. It does have a different purpose and is formulated a bit differently, but the overall composition is similar. The Clean Dirt is a powder cleanser, where The Problem Solver is a powder mask. Both use water to activate their ingredients, both also contain sodium bicarbonate, lastly they both have spicy and chocolatey scents to them. The Problem Solver is more active and is only to be used a few times a week. It does have bamboo charcoal, where The Clean Dirt does not. I prefer The Honey Mud to The Problem Solver as it is more gentle.

May Lindstrom Skin: The Youth Dew
The Youth Dew is one I have enjoyed over the last few years. It has a jojoba seed oil base, which mimics the skin’s natural sebum. It also uses CoQ10 to help defend skin from free radicals. This oily serum uses 21 plants and botanical oils to balance and moisturize skin. It is a drier oil texture, so it does not leave skin looking oily and feeling greasy. It is not an all-star product, like the Honey Mud and Blue Cocoon, but it is good.

May Lindstrom Skin: The Happy Galaxy
The most recent edition to the May Lindstrom Skin line is The Happy Galaxy. This is the first body product from the line. The Happy Galaxy is a body oil made from Blue Tansy Flower Oil, Plum Seed Oil, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Jasmine Flower Extract, and Niacinimide. I like to think of this scent as if The Jasmine Garden and The Blue Cocoon had a baby. It is florally, herbal, and grounding. It is a lightweight oil that quickly absorbs into the skin and doesn’t leave me feeling sticky or slick. I have enjoyed this oil and would repurchase it once empty!

May Lindstrom Skin Final Thoughts
The products I think are most worth it from May Lindstrom Skin are The Blue Cocoon, The Honey Mud, and The Happy Galaxy. May Lindstrom offers all seven skincare products in a small trial size box, called The Chocolate Box. This makes the collection more accessible to try before investing in full-size products. May Lindstrom Skin also offers various accessories on their site: mask bowls, wands, towels, etc. I have yet to invest in these products, so I cannot speak for them, but they look lovely.
